Creep

Creep is the continued extension of a material when subjected to long-term static loading. Resistance tocreep (or its static-strain complement, stress-relaxation) is a critical design consideration in materialselection for many applications requiring long-term dimensional stability (e.g.sailcloth, halyards, bowstring, marine cables, robotic tendons,etc.).

In experiments on yarns and small braids,minimal creep was observed with loads up to 30% of ratedbreaking load.These tests ran for as long as 10,000 hours at ambient temperatures,as shown in Figure 11.
